Dear Arvada High School Community,
I am writing to share with you that I will be retiring at the end of this school year. It has been a pleasure to serve Arvada High School and its community for the last 6 years. I am so grateful to have been a part of the accomplishments, successes and challenges we have faced together. I am proud that we are a partner with the New Tech Network, we have pathways for our students, we believe in restorative practices, our students will be prepared for the future with our new Capstone process, we have focused on equity, and we have a new building our community can be proud of. 
Wendy Doran, Community Superintendent, has attached a letter below to inform staff and the community about next steps in the principal selection process.
I would like to thank you for your support of our school during my tenure. I will leave with many wonderful memories, and I truly love the Arvada community.

Dear Arvada High School Community,
Principal Yacovetta has announced to staff she will be retiring at the end of this school year.  I want to thank Ms. Yacovetta for her service to the Arvada High School community and fully extend my appreciation for the innovative leadership and relentless dedication to her students and the community.  

While we celebrate Ms. Yacovetta’s leadership, we must also engage in the principal selection process to welcome a new leader at Arvada High School. I would like to provide information regarding next steps for the selection of the future principal of Arvada High School. The process we follow will allow the school community to provide input into the leadership qualities potential candidates should possess and maintain a confidential selection process. It will also involve selection of the committee that will be charged with recommending a principal finalist to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
Information & Next Steps: 
I will be meeting with the AHS staff and the school community at separate meetings. The purpose of these meetings will be to provide input into the “Look Fors” for the selection committee.  In addition, I will review the entire principal selection process. The final part of these meetings will be to identify the representatives who will serve on the principal selection committee.  

  • The staff meeting will be via Zoom on Friday January 22, 2021 at 7:00AM.  Per district hiring practices, two licensed staff members and one classified staff member will serve on the principal selection committee. The representatives will be chosen by staff nomination and vote.
  • The community meeting will be via Zoom on February 3, 2021 at 6:00PM.  A link to access the community meeting will be emailed to those who register to attend. Please register utilizing this link the link provided below.  Two parent representatives will serve on the selection committee; Typically the SAC chair and/or the PTA President are highly considered for one of the positions.  Both positions on the selection committee will be selected during the parent meeting by nomination and vote during the meeting.

This rigorous, school community-based principal selection process outlined above will occur in February.  The specific date will be announced as soon as it is finalized.
